Midwest Wood Art

For many millennia, mankind has used wood for shelter, furniture, eating utensils, fire/cooking, and decoration.  When using wood for decoration, the craftsman/artist usually looks for some way to make an item more appealing/attractive, and/or expressive. Woodturning uses a method where the work piece is spinned against a stationary tool to remove the excess wood.

While woodturning has been around since ancient times, tools and methods have changed dramatically in the last twenty or so years, allowing the hobbyist greater flexibility to turn shapes that might not have been possible before, allowing the artist even greater artistic expression.
